Just when I start to regain a little faith in humanity something tends to come along and makes me lower my expactations once again.
Example: Today I went to this cluttered-ass store called Cedar-Cliff Collectibles. It's in Eagan somewhere. I'd wanted to buy some bootleg anime, and they have good deals on G.I. Joes, so I stopped by. So I'm digging throuhgh the Joes, some guy is in there trying to sell D&D books and some Heart concert is playing on VH1 Classic, which is perpetually on the TV's there. For some reason (I wasn't paying particularly close attention) the owner states that Eagan is the best city in the Twin Cities. Disregarding the fact that that's technically impossible his reasons pretty much invalidated his argument.
Reason #1: There's no black people
Really I don't need to list the other reasons to convince anyone that the guy wasn't a moron. Vehement skinhead type rascism is easy to hate. You know exactly what they'd like to do too. But this casual sort of racism, this "Yeah, I was buying some cigarettes and man the prices were awful. By the by, don't those people of other ethnicities suck?" is insidious and disturbing. The guy's secretly racsist. He only said anything because everyone in the shop was white. Who knows how it manifests? Does he charge black people more for stuff? Cut them off in traffic? Or does he just talk a good game? We'll never know and it doesn't really matter. Oh, another positive about skinheads is that they at least speak thier beliefs regardless of the situation. I hate what they stand for, but at least they believe in it enough to say openly.
The guy then went on to say that he was also glad that there was no low income housing in Eagan. Because it sure would suck to have an increased customer base huh guy?
Bah.
In other news, I have a job at Target now that I very much do not want to have to take. Orientation tomorrow and I'd like nothing more than to just not show up. I should probably just go back to school so I don't have to work for 7.00 an hour. Fuck if I know what I'd go for though, which has always been the problem.
Something needs to change though. I don't know what's wrong, but I haven't been doing well lately.
Man I'm depressing. Stupid lack of motivation and whatnot . . .
